RSE

In Posadas we believe that it is our social responsibility to live and work in line with our values. It is our prerogative to act in such a way that we can give back to society.

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), a management tool in our firm, has been planned and developed in line with the values that guide our daily work. These activities revolve around four subjects: childhood, the arts, imprisonment related issues and the development and growth of our collaborators.

We are a team with business purposes where professional and human aspects are inseparable and involvement with pro bono activities implies the participation of the members of the Firm and its collaborators.

Fundación Niños con Alas was created in the year 2000. It supports 5 primary education institutions located in 5 unprivileged neighborhoods in Montevideo, with approximately 1,600 children. Although Fundación Niños con Alas’s main support to these institutions is through the contribution of funds, it also provides assistance in matters of administration, logistics, accounting and taxation.

Posadas has been present since its inception. It drafted its by-laws and accomplished all necessary formalities to obtain approval from the relevant authorities. Posadas partners have been members of the board of directors of Niños con Alas since its creation: Ignacio de Posadas, Attorney-at-Law, first acted as chairman and then as director, during the period 2000 – 2012, and now again as chairman for the past few years. José Rodriguez, CPA, has been director and treasurer. Tomás Guerrero, Attorney-at-Law, has also been actively involved.

In addition, Posadas keeps the accounts of Fundación Niños con Alas, monitors compliance with formal obligations and provides advice on labor-related issues as well as the execution of agreements. Posadas also represents Fundación Niños con Alas before government entities, based on the analysis of applicable tax regulations.

Fundación Niños con Alas is the leading NGO supporting primary education in deprived areas, not only through education but also providing medical, dental, social, nutritional, recreational and other assistance.

In addition, Posadas — and many of its members individually — collaborate with a sponsorship program through a commitment to financing a child’s schooling expenses through primary education, in addition to all other possible support, including the provision of models for human values.

Following the suggestion made by Germán Vecino, the Firm joined efforts made by government entities and several businessmen toward the creation of ARIS (Civil Association to Support Rehabilitation and Social Integration). ARIS is supported by Uruguay’s Ministry of the Interior and Parliament.

This organization aims at working for the good of safety and social integration of individuals who are deprived of their freedom during their time in prison. It seeks to provide assistance during the release process ensuring that ex-inmates encounter real opportunities for personal development and education, with the capacity to find employment.

ARIS has joined Universidad Católica Dámaso Antonio Larrañaga in ongoing work to improve Public Safety, providing a disciplinary and human framework that fosters the development of inmates. Moreover, several projects are being developed in order to promote sports, arts and culture, as well as social inclusion.

All the Firm’s wasted paper is classified through REPAPEL. Paper is taken to recycling factories or warehouses. Our wasted paper is used to manufacture materials and articles made of recycled paper that are used in schools, and to finance education.

The Firm sponsors the Gurvich Museum. It provides financial support to the Museum and its Foundation for all its publications and events, encouraging creativity and arts in Uruguay.

In 2015, it was agreed that the Museum would organize a plastic arts workshop at Centro Penitenciario Punta de Rieles (a prison), thus consolidating two pro bono issues: culture and inmates. The workshop: “Integrando con Gurvich” is currently being held.

The project for fostering arts at Centro Penitenciario Punta de Rieles was developed by ARIS (Civil Association for the Support of Rehabilitation and Social Integration), and is supported by Posadas, Uruguay’s Ministry of the Interior and Gurvich Museum.

The project aims at sensitizing and building new educational models applicable to the situation of inmates, encouraging collaboration and cooperation in an attempt to offset the effects of violence, insecurity and social isolation among other problems.

Our partners

Internally, the firm also promotes social responsibility, encouraging all members of staff to strike a balance between personal, family and professional life.

We stress the importance of continuous training for our staff and offer in-house courses in the different areas within the scope of the Firm. We also offer our support to staff pursuing a master’s and postgraduate degree, whether in Uruguay or abroad, granting financial aid and leave periods.

Posadas also allows staff members who are university professors and students to have flexible working hours.

Posadas grants longer maternity leave periods in addition to reduced working hours.

Our staff members start a career the moment they joint the Firm, with clear goals and objectives. The development of every team member is assessed on an annual basis, acknowledging achievements and appraising their progress. This allows them to grow within the organization.

Teamwork and integration are essential to our Firm. This is fostered through extracurricular activities such as after office gatherings, celebrations on special occasions such as Women’s Day, Children’s Day (includes families), End of Year Parties
